Virya Retreat: Yoga and Meditation with Joanna Dunn
How do you want to age? Most of us want longevity – but with a caveat. We want longevity with vitality. We want to live well for as long as possible. Over the course of this weeklong immersion, Joanna will introduce you to a variety of practices to help you improve and maintain physical and mental health as you age. If you are in the second half of life, this week will inspire and motivate you to begin daily practices that will develop virya – vitality – starting where ever you currently are.
- Yoga for strength, flexibility and to improve your balance.
- Somatics for efficiency, ease and coordination in movement.
- Mindfulness Meditation to enhance neuroplasticity and general wellbeing.
- Breath practices to benefit cardiovascular and immune health.
All ages and levels are welcome. No prior experience is necessary. Joanna’s style is friendly, accessible and interesting for beginners as well as experienced practitioners.
A typical day on retreat will begin with an early morning sunrise meditation followed by an active, strength-building yoga practice. Following breakfast, your day is free to relax, visit the spa, head into the town of Sayulita (within walking distance of Haramara) or take advantage of an adventure offered by Haramara guides. Joanna will offer optional workshops based on the group’s needs several times during the week. Topics could include:
- Self-compassion practice
- Introduction to meditation
- Group coaching sessions
- The neuroscience of change
- Introduction to handstanding
- The science of the breath
- Introduction to Yoga Philosophy
In the afternoon, we will gather for a restorative yoga and somatic movement practice. Following dinner, an evening meditation practice will be offered.
Everything is always optional at Joanna’s retreats. She believes that each person should be guided by their intention for the week with the priority on self-care. Most of us lead lives filled with many obligations. Allow your retreat to provide an open field to take each moment, each day as it comes.
Option to add on one-on-one sessions at additional cost.
Not included: airfare and ground transportation, spa services and excursions, alcoholic or specialty beverages, gratuities.
