Transition. Impermanence. Gratitude. Connection. These past 18 months have held many challenges and teachings for us. As we redefine our new ways in this new world, join me for a week in this very special slice of paradise, Haramara Retreat. You’ll melt into the warm hospitality of the people and the breathtaking serenity, with only the sounds of nature, azure ocean, and quiet voices to gently encourage you to step out again into the sun and the stars. Haramara draws us back each year for rejuvenation, nourishment, and rest.
This retreat is for you to experience the power of a consistent yoga practice combined with intentional self-care: a clear connection to body, head and heart. If you’d like, you’ll greet each day at sunrise with a guided meditation to set your intention for your time on retreat, as well as create the tone for your day. Twice each day, we will meet at the elegantly rustic yoga shalas, inspired by the activity of the verdant jungle and the calm serenity of the ocean. The yoga practices are creative, playful and thoughtful, gently challenging you while always meeting you where you are. Your teacher, Althea, is experienced at designing sequences with modifications that incorporate a balance of stability and movement, always with a focus on inner awareness, breath, and gratitude. Have some fun with different styles of yoga, including gentle flow, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and the alignment-based approach of Iyengar Yoga. Whether you’re new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, the yoga practices are designed for all.
There will of course be ample time for you to creatively round out your retreat week: optional excursions and activities are available, and the Haramara staff will expertly handle all of your needs. One “free” day in the week is yours to explore the nearby beaches and towns, hike into bustling Sayulita, take a swim and soak in the infinity pool, enjoy the inspiring body work and therapy at Larimar, the open air spa near the ocean, or find a nearby hammock and simply rest.
Come as you are. Enjoy a week in paradise to focus on refilling your tank. Nothing is mandatory – except that you simply show up. You’ll return home rested, refreshed, and reconnected.

About the Instructors:
Althea has been teaching yoga for more than 25 years and considers the study and practice of yoga to be a lifelong dedication, with her greatest inspirations found in being a mother, mentor and teacher. The depth and diversity of her career in healthcare, life experiences and yoga studies inform her teaching, allowing her to create thoughtful sequences of organic and intuitive postures for each individual with a focus on gratitude, softening, and creating space. Her practices support inward reflection and thoughtfulness, and her overall approach embodies the philosophy “Less is More.” Althea is a Registered Nurse, and holds a Masters Degree in Public Health.
Althea is the founder of AltheaYoga, an online yoga study and practice platform, and has a thriving private Yoga Therapy practice in the greater Sacramento area. She is a Certified Contemplative Practice Yoga® Therapist and Yoga Teacher, and also holds certification through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT). In addition, she leads several local and international yoga retreats throughout the year. When she’s not on the mat, you’ll find Althea enjoying the beautiful outdoors, playing the piano, and spending time with her family and friends.
