Strength & Surrender: A Yoga & Mindfulness Retreat

Feb. 20 -27, 2021

We will offer two yoga classes a day (morning and late afternoon), along with extra specialty classes/mini-workshops (TBD by interest & time availability).  Both the morning and afternoon sessions will vary in style and format ranging from active vinyasa-style yang yoga to gentle, slow-flow classes incorporating elements of Yin and Restorative yoga, pranayama and meditation.  We will incorporate philosophy discussion and mindfulness teachings into time before and/or after classes.

The yoga classes that we offer will be appropriate for all levels of students as we will offer the chance to modify or add on when appropriate. So whether you are a beginner or advanced student, we will work with you at your level to provide a week of challenge and growth. During the day, you will have the freedom to spend your time as you choose….treating yourself to a massage, napping, reading, sun bathing or going on an adventure (hiking, surfing, zip lining, waterfall rappelling, chocolate tours and more).

About the Instructors:

Shannah Green

Shannah has been practicing and teaching yoga for over twenty years. From the start of her journey with Iyengar Yoga and the esteemed teacher, Patricia Walden, she knew she had found her life’s path and calling.

She went on to get certifications from Kripalu Center and at Eyes of the World Yoga Center in Providence . A perpetual student, throughout the years, she has continued to do yoga trainings, workshops and classes. She is honored to have studied with many wonderful teachers including Tom Gillette, Rodney Yee, Shiva Rae, Seane Corn, Erich Schiffmann, Richard Freeman, David Swenson, Kathryn Budig, Barbara Benaugh, Rolf Gates, Schyler Grant, Theresa Murphy, Paul Grilley, and Annie Carpenter.

Her eclectic style draws from many styles and traditions and is ever evolving. Her classes are known for being challenging, contemplative, mindful, precise ,passionate, and empowering.

She says of her experience, “The practice of yoga has been a personal lifeline, a means of navigating everything in my life. Embracing the moment to moment experience, I am continually brought back to mindful attention and conscious choice.  Yoga and teaching keeps me grounded and grateful.”

Ramsay Trussell

Ramsay (RYT 500) began practicing yoga in 2000 and was drawn to the strong, physical aspects of the practice. The unexpected bonus was that this physical practice also brought about a quiet mind that other athletic endeavors had not. Ramsay enjoys the challenge of finding a balance between strength and ease, power and letting go, in each class and in each pose. In 2008, she completed her 200-hour RYT teacher training with Natasha Rizopoulos of YogaWorks and in 2015 she completed her 300-hour RYT training again under Natasha’s guidance. Ramsay’s classes combine the heat and flow of Ashtanga with a strong emphasis on precise alignment that comes from Iyengar. Ramsay has also spent time studying the Iyengar method in weekly classes with Patricia Walden.
Ramsay believes strongly that yoga is a practice of healing the body so, in 2015, she studied with both Julie Gudmestad and Judith Lasater, both of whom are renowned physical therapists, anatomists and yoga teachers. Classes with each of them helped to deepen Ramsay’s knowledge of anatomy and yoga therapeutics. As a former TV producer, Ramsay enjoys the challenge of planning and producing a safe but challenging sequence for her students with a deep appreciation that every student is different and that each day is different. Be Present and Be Patient. As the great Pattabhi Jois said, “Little by little, all is coming.”
